Thanksgiving day

Tomorrow is the fourth Thursday of November. Every year on this date American people gather for a day of feasting, football and family. Although the celebrations today are quite different from the original 1621 harvest meal, it is still a day for Americans to meet around the table.

Some facts about Thanksgiving today:
  • In the US, about 280 million turkeys are sold for the Thanksgiving celebrations.
  • Californians are the largest consumers of turkey in the United States.
  • Although Thanksgiving is widely considered an American holiday, it is also celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada.
  • Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States, the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season.

Autumn

Autumn is a season that combines the sadness of death previous to winter with an amazing beauty; it seems nature wants to give us a last present before sleeping until spring.

Some jokes for this weekend

What is the longest word in the English language?
SMILES: there is a mile between the first and last letter!

Mother: “Did you enjoy your first day at school?”
Girl: “First day? Do you mean I have to go back tomorrow?”

Headmaster: I've had complaints about you, Johnny, from all your teachers. What have you been doing?
Johnny: Nothing, sir.
Headmaster: Exactly.

PUPIL: "Would you punish me for something I didn`t do?"
TEACHER:" Of course not."
PUPIL: "Good, because I haven`t done my homework."

Idioms with pink

An idiom is a combination of words that,in addition to a literal meaning, have a figurative meaning due to its common usage. There are thousands of idioms and they occur in all languages. In English there are at least 25.000 idiomatic expressions. It's really funny that when you talk a lot, "hablas por los codos" if you are Spanish, but if you are English "you talk the hind legs off a donkey".

Today I want to show you some idioms with the color pink.

Now two questions for you:
-What happens when you see pink elepants?
-What is the meaning of 'pinkie'?

Halloween is here!

I love old sayings with a lovely rhythm, don't you?

And what about a pun suitable for today?

Pun: a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words that sound alike but have different meanings.

Halloween is coming!!

I can't ignore the date, can I?
This is a song about dancing skeletons; I know it's for students younger than mine, but they are so cute! Children can practise the parts of the body in English.

HELLO!

Hi! Welcome to my blog!

I don't know exactly what I'm doing here, but as I am an English teacher, I am in contact every day with articles, videos, songs or games that get my attention and I think that perhaps they can get my students' attention too. So, let's put them in this blog and see what happens!

If that someone is a student of yours, you feel really good.
