UK Culture Class

Last week, precisely on the English Language Day, we were lucky to have in our school something special: a Culture Class.

Luke Roberts, a native English teacher who works for Burlington Books, gave a presentation to some of our students about different topics of the English-speaking world.

Students learnt interesting things and had the opportunity to participate in the activities. The best part was that the event was fun and educative at the same time; they learnt and they laughed, can you ask for more?

You are very good, Luke, thank you for your time and we hope to see you again.

 

Everybody had a chance to participate and at the end there was a quiz in the style of the TV game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire? where one lucky winner was given a nice prize.

Thanksgiving day

Tomorrow is the fourth Thursday of November. Every year on this date American people gather for a day of feasting, football and family. Although the celebrations today are quite different from the original 1621 harvest meal, it is still a day for Americans to meet around the table.

 

 

Some facts about Thanksgiving today:

• In the US, about 280 million turkeys are sold for the Thanksgiving celebrations.
• Californians are the largest consumers of turkey in the United States.
• Although Thanksgiving is widely considered an American holiday, it is also celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada.
• Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States, the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season.
